Here's a simple knitting pattern for a chunky yarn blanket with 50-70 stitches across:
Materials:
- Miss Knitty Chunky Merino - choose your favorite colour or combination of colours - depending on the size you want, you could use 4-6 balls or more
- Knitting needles suitable for chunky yarn - we recommend any needle you're comfortable with between 10mm and 15mm
Instructions:
- Cast on using your preferred method: 50 stitches for a smaller lap blanket or up to 70 for a bigger blanket - or as many as you choose to make it your own!
- Row 1: Knit across.
- Row 2: Purl across.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the blanket reaches your desired length, or until you have used up most of your yarn.
- Once you've reached the desired length, bind off all stitches.
Optional:
- You can add stripes by switching yarn colours every few rows, or colour blocks by changing colours each time you finish a ball.
- To add texture, you can experiment with different stitch patterns like seed stitch, ribbing, or garter stitch.
A simple yet effective stitch pattern to add texture to your blanket is the seed stitch. It creates a bumpy, textured fabric that looks great on both sides.
Row 1: *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * to end of row. Row 2: *Purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat these two rows for the seed stitch pattern. You could use the seed stitch as the border to your blanket, or continue it across your whole blanket.
The seed stitch pattern will add lovely texture to your chunky yarn blanket while keeping the knitting process interesting. Enjoy creating your cozy masterpiece!
